Health and Safety

The Health & Safety elements for each Welding Course will be covered in detail and will be specific to each Welding Process.

The following is a list of Elements covered.

  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Covers the range of safety wear that the specific job in hand requires to cover Health & Safety requirements.
  • Welding Bay requirements for:
    • Correct earthing of electrical equipment.
    • Condition of Welding Power Sources and welding leads for good electrical and mechanical contact.
    • Fume extraction at the point of welding. General extraction for the removal of Ozone in TIG welding.
    • Welding helmet filtered fresh air supply.
    • Safe welding practice to ensure reduced risk to flammable material from welding sparks and hot metal.
  • Measurement of noise levels and hearing protection.
  • Use of Abrasive wheels – this is covered in the Abrasive Wheels Course.
  • Gas Cylinders – Colour identification and specific safety data sheets for gases used in a particular process.
  • Risk assessments and Method statements.
