Health and Safety
The Health & Safety elements for each Welding Course will be covered in detail and will be specific to each Welding Process.
The following is a list of Elements covered.
- Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Covers the range of safety wear that the specific job in hand requires to cover Health & Safety requirements.
- Welding Bay requirements for:
- Correct earthing of electrical equipment.
- Condition of Welding Power Sources and welding leads for good electrical and mechanical contact.
- Fume extraction at the point of welding. General extraction for the removal of Ozone in TIG welding.
- Welding helmet filtered fresh air supply.
- Safe welding practice to ensure reduced risk to flammable material from welding sparks and hot metal.
- Measurement of noise levels and hearing protection.
- Use of Abrasive wheels – this is covered in the Abrasive Wheels Course.
- Gas Cylinders – Colour identification and specific safety data sheets for gases used in a particular process.
- Risk assessments and Method statements.
